How to Book a Fishing Charter in Coos Bay
Ready to book your Charleston fishing charter? The process is straightforward, but understanding timing, deposits, and what questions to ask ensures you get exactly the experience you want. Here's your complete booking guide.
Step 1: Decide What You Want to Target
Different species have different seasons and trip requirements. Review our guides on lingcod, rockfish, halibut, tuna, salmon, and crab to understand what's available during your dates.
Our month-by-month breakdown shows what species are active when. If you're flexible on target species, just let us know your dates and we'll recommend what's biting best.
Step 2: Book Early (Especially for Peak Season)
Summer weekends (June-August): Book 4-8 weeks in advance. This is peak tourist season and dates fill quickly.
Summer weekdays: 2-4 weeks advance booking usually sufficient
Spring/Fall: 1-3 weeks notice typically works
Winter: Shorter notice acceptable (weather-dependent scheduling)
Special trips (halibut opening days, tuna season start) book months in advance. If you have specific target dates or species, don't wait.
Step 3: Contact Pacific Charter Services
Phone: 541-378-3040 (preferred method—allows discussion of conditions, options, and questions)
When you call, have ready:
- Preferred dates (and backup dates if flexible)
- Number of anglers (up to 6 on our boat)
- Target species or general trip type
- Any special needs (kids, first-timers, dietary restrictions)
Questions to Ask When Booking
- "What's biting during my dates?" — Get current intel on what's productive
- "What trip length do you recommend?" — Varies by target species and season
- "What's included in the price?" — We provide all tackle, bait, and fish cleaning
- "What do I need to bring?" — See our packing list
- "What's your weather cancellation policy?" — We reschedule or refund for unsafe conditions
Deposits and Payment
Most charters require a deposit to hold your date (typically 50% of trip cost). This confirms your booking and takes the date off the calendar.
Deposit policies:
- Deposits are refundable if weather forces cancellation
- Rescheduling due to your conflict may forfeit deposit (varies by notice given)
- Balance due day of trip (cash, check, or card depending on charter policies)
Get clarification on cancellation/rescheduling policies when booking. Reputable charters are transparent about this.
Before Your Trip
7 days before: Confirm trip is still on, get exact meeting location and time
3 days before: Check weather forecast, purchase your Oregon fishing license
1 day before: Captain may call to confirm weather looks good and trip is proceeding as scheduled
Day of trip: Arrive 15 minutes early with license, gear, and cooler for your catch
Weather-Related Changes
Ocean fishing is weather-dependent. If conditions turn unsafe or very uncomfortable, we'll contact you to reschedule. This is more common in winter/spring than summer.
Experienced captains prioritize safety and client experience over running trips in marginal conditions. If we recommend rescheduling, trust that judgment—you'll have a better experience on a calmer day.
Check our weather guide for seasonal patterns.
Group Bookings
Our 6-pack private charter accommodates up to 6 anglers. For larger groups, we can coordinate multiple boats if available. Contact us early for group trips—we'll work with you to ensure everyone gets on the water.
Groups work great for corporate events, family reunions, or friend trips. See our private charter advantages.
